Yes, I admit it. I am stressed at the office; this week I joined the millions of people on the Big Blue Marble forced into the netherworld called…Windows 8.

It was not my choice for I wanted to make the switch from my old PC to a Mac, but the software utilities I use daily for executive recruiting purposes are not iOS-compatible.

New PCs like the one I bought now arrive installed with the Windows 8 operating system. The new desktop sure is pretty, but it is tricky to navigate. And please don’t get me started on formatting the new version of Microsoft Office.

As Frank Costanza bellows during times of high anxiety: “Serenity Now!”

Certainly, I understand why the brilliant software and “UX” engineers at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington revamped Windows. Tablets and smartphones have changed the way we relate to information. Meantime, previous updates to the venerable Windows operating system, which debuted in 1995, consisted of mere window-dressing. Microsoft users upgrading to Windows XP or Windows 7 had at worst an uneventful experience.

Okay, Windows Vista was a train wreck. But I digress.

Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 requires one to basically rewire one’s brain. Data transfer–from old PC to new–took me nearly 16 hours to complete. And the dashboard on the new Outlook? I think the busy Bloomberg Financial News dashboard is easier to use.

Data transfer from old to new PC is almost complete. And the long process has left me jittery. But I have taken my own advice, posted here last year, to seek…BLISS!

This week in the Washington, DC metro our Cherry, Dogwood, Crabapple, Redbud, and other flowering trees are truly spectacular. And just steps from my home office, my newly planted tulips are in glorious full bloom. Twice this morning, I distracted myself with the beauty that is just outside my office door.

And I feel better, already.

Whether you work from a home office or not, do enjoy the warm Spring sights, clear your head, experience bliss, and get back to work refreshed and energized.
